I don’t know why you did not do transcription on your start and stop codons and the DNA should have no longer contain the Uracil base since Adenine would be transcripted with a thymine base. Nevertheless, here it is.

AUG GUU CCC UUG CCA UC(U) CCG GGG UCA AAG (U)UC
START I want to sit and study natural selection and fossil STOP

    1. I think I got a little confused as to how it was supposed to be written in the actual blog post. But you are correct.

  2. Good decode, Faris, though the last word codes to "anthropology" (AAC) instead of "fossil" (AAG).

GRojas, it took some time for me to decode it. At its base, you have the right idea but made some mistakes along the line that caused problems. This assignment is supposed to mimic what actually happens in a cell. Faced with your code, an enzyme wouldn't have known how to start with yours! Here are some of the issues:

    1. You have RNA versions of the start and stop codons in your DNA. Those shouldn't be there and I'm puzzled as to why they are added in there? A clue that they are wrong is that there should be no uracils in DNA. You only find them in RNA.

    2. What should be there instead of the RNA start/stop codons are just some random DNA bases to make your decoder look for the start codon.

    3. You have a mutation in your stop codon. It became UAC (book) instead of UAG (stop codon).

If you have any questions after reading this through, let me know.

Here is my decode for reference:

    DNA: AUGTACCAAGGGAACGGTAGUGGCAGCCCCAGTTTGUAG
    RNA: UACAUGGUUCCCUUGCCAUCACCGUCGGGGUCAAACAUC
Codons: AUG GUU CCC UUG CCA UCA CCG UCG GGG UCA AAC AUC
(start) I want to sit and study about natural selection and anthropology (book).

    1. I did have a hard time trying to decide what exactly was supposed to the actual strand. I think I might have confused my RNA strand with DNA I was trying to transcribe it myself. I think that is maybe where I went wrong in this assignment.
